Ethan's Surgery

Today Ethan had surgery to repair his umbilical hernia. He was born with it and it hasn't healed on it's own. His pediatrician said he needed the surgery because it could cause problems down the road if he's too active. And knowing Ethan, he'll be active!

Leading up to the surgery, we've been talking about it and he asked me, "Why does my belly button need to be fixed?" I told him because it pokes out. He lifted his shirt, looked at his belly button and said, "It does?!?" Like he had never noticed before or realized it was a problem.

Ethan was a champ in the hospital! He was making all of the doctors and nurses laugh. First when the surgeon came in to talk to us, he asked if we had any questions. Derek and I didn't but Ethan said, "I have a question, why do I have to wear these hospital pajamas?" It was pretty cute and the doctor was very good to listen and explain to him.

He had the nurses laughing when they wheeled him back in. I guess waking up from anesthesia, he started talking a mile a minute. He was telling the nurses how he has a birthday soon and he'll turn four, but he's excited for his 6th birthday because then he can get his own library card! Cute boy!

He's recovering well so far. Pretty sleepy and a little groggy today, but he's doing great!
